Day three - funk, clothes, more guests, and chicken curry

Hello, my name is mikko. I have been playing guitar for several years now. I'm getting good, I can almost play the solo from Metallica's hit song "one". Since I started when I was 12 I fantasized about becoming a rock star. Now I've accomplished it. I'm at Spinefarm summer camp, and the Spinefarm label manager is making me food, just before he's going to meet Alice Cooper. When I was 12 I didn't understand why Alice had a girl's name, I thought it was silly. Now I understand it. Now I understand everything. I think I'll have a beer now. Because the label manager is offering me one. Yes, the guy that's going to meet Alice Cooper soon and discuss business with him. Yes he also cooks for me and gives me beer. Yes I also have my shades on inside while I'm writing this. I'm a rock star now.

Recordings have commenced

..and all that the rest of us are basically hearing is AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.

So I guess that's a good sign.

The song is apparently called "Odin är min farmor".

Day one - issues with audio

We're now broadcasting - and no we don't have audio.
First it was because people were discussing some private issues, now it's because everyone's creativity suffered a bit when I announced that audio broadcast is on ;)

Once we have a song together and are recording our first takes, I'll promise we'll turn the sound on the stream but until then there's a silent movie going on at our UStream channel!

edit: it's a folk song Sami, Mikko and Jukkis are doing. At it's in Swedish!

Tomorrow it begins!

After several months of planning and panicking and just madly laughing at the whole idea, the first Spinefarm Summer Camp is finally happening.

What started as a cool idea of just having a small get together party somewhere in Finland for Spinefarmers, quickly became a much more serious matter when we decided that the camp should actually be about making music and just having different types of artists work together.
Hence it went from a small party to a 10 day gathering, and from 6 people to more than 20.

And what are we trying to create?
A Spinefarm All-Stars album, and a separate Christmas Album.
New tracks, freshly created by the minds of talented Spinefarm recording artists by giving them a chance to work with people they've possibly never worked before.

No-one knows what will come out of this yet, but hey, no one needs to be a fortune teller to be able to predict that this'll at least be fun!

We've now got our recording gear ready plus shopping lists done and there's a huge cabin waiting for us in the middle of the woods and lakes of Southern Finland - it's finally time to go!

After pinning down people's schedules for weeks our first batch of participants includes:

Mikko Kotamäki - Swallow the Sun
Markus Toivonen - Ensiferum
Sami Hinkka - Ensiferum
Jukka-Pekka Miettinen - ex-Ensiferum, Arthemesia
Niklas Kvarforth - Shining
Christian Larsson - Shining
Keijo Niinimaa - Medeia
Laura D - Medeia
Mikko Salovaara - Kiuas
Asim Searah - Kiuas
Rainer Tuomikanto - Kiuas

More people will arrive as the camp progresses!

We're also bringing along Metalheim's Jukka Varmo as a recording engineer, our trusty driver Toni Salminen and a few Spinefarmers - yours truly included - to make everything run smoothly.

So stay tuned for news and more bloggings!
We'll add pictures and new entries to this blog daily, along with comments from our artists, and we'll also be streaming live at UStream at scheduled intervals.

These schedules will be posted onto our Facebook page as soon as we've decided what our daily recording times will be.

Signing out and heading to pack a few more things,
yours truly,
N.H. Leviathan
